SUMMARY

NEC, a key partner in the Horizon Europe O-CEI project, actively participated in the joint BDVA and SEMIC workshop dedicated to exploring the role of Large Language Models (LLMs) in enhancing semantic interoperability. The workshop brought together researchers, practitioners, and industry experts to discuss state-of-the-art techniques, tools, and use cases where LLMs support data model alignment, semantic enrichment, and cross-domain interoperability.

Representing O-CEI, NEC delivered a presentation titled “Semantic Interoperability with FIWARE and LLM,” demonstrating how LLMs can support more efficient and accessible semantic data exchange. Key takeaways from the presentation:

  • With careful prompt engineering, today’s LLMs are capable of processing data with formal semantics.
  • LLM can help with tedious translation and interpretation work.
  • This technology lowers the entry barrier for adopting semantically interoperable solutions across domains.

The event also fostered knowledge sharing and collaboration among key actors and communities, laying the groundwork for a dedicated group focused on advancing LLM-driven semantic interoperability.
