Europe is accelerating toward a future where electric vehicles (EVs) aren’t just transportation, they’re powerful, flexible assets for the energy system. The V2G Leaders Europe Summit, taking place on 20 November 2025 at Area42 in Brussels, brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to unlock the full potential of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies.
The event is hosted by the European Commission, with CEI-Sphere and the O-CEI Horizon project serving as strategic partners, alongside E-Mobility Europe, Task 53, and CharIN as support partners. The agenda is both rich and accessible, featuring two complementary tracks: the Main Summit Stage, led by the Commission, and a parallel program of Workshops and interactive sessions organized by CEI-Sphere and O-CEI.
Main Summit Stage: Shaping Europe’s V2G Future: Policy, Standards, and Commercial Insights
The sessions under the Main Summit Stage will feature high-level insights and strategic discussions on the policies, technologies, and commercial pathways driving Europe’s V2G ecosystem.
The day will open with a deep dive into the European Framework – Policy Updates and Latest News. Participants will hear welcome addresses from DG ENER, DG RTD, and DG CNECT representatives, followed by updates on the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), and the Automotive Action Plan. Insights from the Commission’s energy and transport expert groups (D4E- Data for Energy, and STF – Sustainable Transport Forum) will highlight how digital, energy, and mobility sectors are being bridged to enable bidirectional charging.
Exploring Policy needs, key barriers, and pathways to scale V2G, the program will examine how V2G transitions from pilot projects to commercial reality. Speakers from France, Finland, the Netherlands, and the UK will share experiences from regulatory sandboxes, bundled offerings, and smart tariffs, highlighting how supportive policies and frameworks are enabling large-scale deployment of bidirectional charging technologies.
The discussion will then move to Digital Integration and Blueprints Standards within the V2G Ecosystem, focusing on how fleet and logistics charging, data aggregation, and virtual power plants can operate seamlessly. Experts from several companies will address interoperability, cross-domain industrial cooperation, and blueprint standards that unlock the full potential of EV flexibility, enabling a robust and scalable V2G ecosystem.
Closing the main track, the spotlight will move on Commercial success of V2G. Speakers will explore strategies to reduce the total cost of ownership, deploy standardised software frameworks, and accelerate adoption of V2X standards, demonstrating how EVs can become fully integrated assets in Europe’s energy system.
Turning Innovation into Impact: V2G Workshops in Action
Alongside the Main Summit Stage, the workshop streams at V2G Leaders Europe provide a deep dive into hands-on innovation, technology integration, and real-world deployment strategies for bidirectional EV charging. The workshops are divided into two parallel streams, A and B, each focusing on complementary aspects of V2G innovation and implementation. The sessions are designed for participants seeking detailed insights into IoT platforms, cloud-edge architectures, and the evolving V2G ecosystem, bridging policy, industry, and technical expertise.
Under Stream A, the morning session, O-CEI – Pilot for IoT Platforms and Decentralised Intelligence, will provide an overview of the project.
Attendees will see how the project’s blueprints, marketplace, and platform interconnect to form an open Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystem addressing energy flexibility. Two conceptual blueprints will be explored in depth, demonstrating how they evolve from design to deployment in pilot cases.
The following session will present the software and hardware utilities contributed by O-CEI’s consortium of universities, industrial leaders, and innovative SMEs, explaining how these technologies integrate into blueprint products. A concise overview of all eight O-CEI pilots will then highlight practical applications of the platform.
Later, the stream will introduce the marketplace and open-source strategy, including repository management, collaboration frameworks, and long-term roadmap planning, before moving into sectoral discussions on V2G business value chains.
The Sectoral and Business Value Chain in V2G, the afternoon session under Stream A, is co-organized by CEI-Sphere and O-CEI. It will explore cross-sectoral integration of V2X technologies, the role of Software Defined Vehicles in enabling V2G, and will close with an expert panel addressing interoperability, innovation, and commercial opportunities in grid-connected mobility.
Stream B will feature one session in the morning – Blueprints Paving the Road Towards Harmonised Standards and Architectures. It will examine how coordinated frameworks can enable interoperable, scalable, and harmonised charging infrastructure. Industry leaders will showcase how strategic blueprints serve as a foundation for standards across mobility, energy, and building sectors, while reflecting on the work of expert groups such as the Sustainable Transport Forum and the Coalition of the Willing for Bidirectional Charging.
During the afternoon, Stream B will host two workshops. The first one, TRIALOG – Enabling the integration of V2G innovation, will feature detailed presentations on applicable regulations, standardisation tools, and lessons from Horizon Europe projects like SCALE. This workshop will also highlight practical insights from the hourglass model applied to O-CEI and other V2G pilots, demonstrating pathways for technology adoption and ecosystem alignment.
The day will conclude with a second session on Real-world implementation challenges and workarounds of ongoing V2G projects, featuring experiences from V2X cluster. The V2X cluster represents 8 European projects dedicated to advancing bidirectional EV charging. Altogether, the cluster projects are testing V2X solutions and services in demo sites spread across 20 European countries. Participants will hear about interoperability, cybersecurity, replicability, market and regulatory barriers, as well as success stories and collaborative approaches that are shaping the future of bidirectional charging.
Together, the two workshop streams, A and B, will provide a comprehensive, technical, and strategic perspective on the V2G landscape, giving attendees the tools, knowledge, and connections to drive forward Europe’s transition to a flexible, grid-integrated electric mobility ecosystem.
From policy to commercial rollout, the V2G Leaders event is the must-attend forum for anyone looking to understand Europe’s V2G trajectory, network with top experts, and witness the future of electric mobility shaping a flexible, low-carbon energy system. Whether you’re a policymaker, energy professional, fleet operator, or EV innovator, the insights and discussions at this summit will equip you with the knowledge to lead in the new era of bidirectional charging. Don’t miss this chance to witness Europe’s V2G transformation firsthand.
