SUMMARY:European Open IoT Edge/Cloud Continuum as Enabler for Energy Flexibility
DESCRIPTION:On October 22\, the O-CEI project will host a dedicated Special Session at the IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT) conference\, highlighting the transformative potential of an open and federated IoT Edge/Cloud Continuum in enabling energy flexibility across sectors and borders. \nAs energy systems evolve towards greater digitalisation and decarbonisation\, coordination between distributed assets\, real-time intelligence\, and advanced data exchange becomes essential. This session will showcase how O-CEI advances this vision through edge computing\, cloud-native architectures\, open-source middleware\, and AI-driven orchestration to optimise energy flexibility and efficiency. \nInvited talks will present the project’s overall architecture\, large-scale energy pilots\, and AI-based tools for smarter grid management and cross-domain interoperability. The session will also emphasise collaboration between energy stakeholders and digital innovators\, demonstrating how open ecosystems can unlock new value in flexibility markets\, grid optimisation\, and energy communities. \nThe Special Session will feature presentations by: \n\nProf. Andreas Kassler (Deggendorf Institute of Technology) – Chair\nDr. Ignacio Lacalle (Universitat Politècnica de València)\, member of the O-CEI Coordinating team\nFrancisco Blanquer (CMA CGM)\, member of the O-CEI’s Pilot 4 team\nDr. Jussi Poikonen (Awake.AI)\, member of the O-CEI’s Pilot 4 team\nProf. Nabil Abdennadher (HES-SO\, HEPIA)\, member of the O-CEI’s Pilot 8 team\nBrian O’Regan (IERC\, Ireland)\, member of the O-CEI’s Pilot 1 team\n\nBy fostering dialogue among researchers\, industry leaders\, and policymakers\, the O-CEI Special Session aims to strengthen international cooperation and reinforce Europe’s leadership in open digital infrastructures for sustainable energy systems.

SUMMARY:O-CEI Pilot 8 Engages with Smart Energy District Community in Fribourg
DESCRIPTION:The partners in Pilot 8 of the O-CEI Horizon project attended two important information events organized by the Smart Energy District (SED) Project\, held in Fribourg on Thursday\, October 30th\, and Monday\, November 3rd. \nPrivate households\, both producers and consumers of electricity\, are becoming major players in the new electricity system. To gather residents’ opinions and expectations\, and set up a panel of consumer-producers\, two information sessions were organized: October 30th and November 3rd. \nThe discussions confirmed the initial research hypotheses\, in particular the need to better understand the context and existing installations\, as well as the possibilities for optimization at the housing level: self-consumption\, storage\, flexibility\, exchanges\, etc. Participants emphasized their desire to have all the information they need to implement energy measures that bring real added value given their situation. This involves parameters that affect financial resources and return on investment as well as the acceptability of a more community-based approach to energy management at the district level.
