SUMMARY:Bridge General Assembly 2026
DESCRIPTION:The partners in Pilot 8 participated in the BRIDGE General Assembly 2026\, which took place on 23–24 March in Brussels. This annual flagship event of the BRIDGE initiative brings together Horizon Europe projects\, European Commission representatives\, and key energy stakeholders from across Europe. \nThe two-day event provided a valuable opportunity to engage with representatives from other Horizon Europe projects working on Smart Grids\, Energy Storage\, Islands\, and Digitalisation\, sharing best practices\, lessons learned\, and collaborative approaches to accelerating Europe’s clean energy transition. \nAs part of the O-CEI Horizon Europe project\, Pilot 8 was actively represented through the contributions of Emmanuel Fragnière and Juliana Magalhães Cardoso\, who serve as co-leaders alongside Carlos Montalvo in the Engagement Indicators subgroup\, part of the BRIDGE Working Group on Consumer and Citizen Engagement. \nOver the past months\, Emmanuel and Juliana have made meaningful contributions to the BRIDGE community by sharing the work carried out within Pilot 8 on social acceptance. Their work aims to ensure that energy communities and citizens are genuinely supported throughout the energy transition\, placing inclusivity and social acceptability at the heart of innovation. \nBeing part of the BRIDGE community and participating in this type of event reinforces our commitment to co-building a more supportive and inclusive energy transition\, together with citizens\, communities\, and fellow European projects.

SUMMARY:Switzerland Advances Community-Centered Energy Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Pilot 8 contribution to the European O-CEI Horizon project took a decisive step forward on Friday 14 November. The partners convened the Polygones community for an in-depth participatory workshop dedicated to the future of smart energy systems. \nThe session had a clear objective: to understand how citizens perceive Local Energy Communities and to collaboratively shape solutions that can genuinely be adopted by the public. Behind the technical ambition lies a human challenge: ensuring that innovation aligns with daily realities. \nWhat emerged from the workshop was a central message: the energy transition cannot succeed through top-down implementation alone. It requires dialogue\, transparency\, and the active involvement of the communities expected to live with these new systems. Participants voiced concerns\, shared expectations\, and contributed creative insights during scenario-based exercises facilitated through a Service Design approach. \nBy placing residents at the heart of the conversation\, Pilot 8 seeks to redefine how energy solutions are developed and tested in Switzerland. The aim is not only to innovate but to ensure that innovation feels accessible\, trusted\, and grounded in real needs. \nThis first workshop marks the beginning of a broader national effort. The next step will take the project to another partner: Val d’Anniviers (in collaboration with Anniviers Tourisme SA and local stakeholders). There\, the discussion will continue in a mountain setting\, offering an opportunity to explore how Alpine communities envision their energy future.

SUMMARY:Challenges of integrating solar panels into electricity grids
DESCRIPTION:Solar production is booming — but how can our electrical networks cope? Between Solar Panel variability\, the need for flexibility\, storage solutions and coordination between stakeholders\, technical and strategic challenges are multiplying. \nThis conference\, organised in conjunction with the ‘Smart Energy District’ flagship project\, explores the challenges of integrating photovoltaics into networks from three complementary perspectives: distributor’s perspective\, scientific perspective\, transmission network perspective. \nMore than 150 people from several DSOs and private companies attended the workshop. Prof. Nabil Abdennadher (from HES-SO) presented the O-CEI project.

SUMMARY:O-CEI Pilot 8 Engages with Smart Energy District Community in Fribourg
DESCRIPTION:The partners in Pilot 8 of the O-CEI Horizon project attended two important information events organized by the Smart Energy District (SED) Project\, held in Fribourg on Thursday\, October 30th\, and Monday\, November 3rd. \nPrivate households\, both producers and consumers of electricity\, are becoming major players in the new electricity system. To gather residents’ opinions and expectations\, and set up a panel of consumer-producers\, two information sessions were organized: October 30th and November 3rd. \nThe discussions confirmed the initial research hypotheses\, in particular the need to better understand the context and existing installations\, as well as the possibilities for optimization at the housing level: self-consumption\, storage\, flexibility\, exchanges\, etc. Participants emphasized their desire to have all the information they need to implement energy measures that bring real added value given their situation. This involves parameters that affect financial resources and return on investment as well as the acceptability of a more community-based approach to energy management at the district level.

SUMMARY:Pilot 8 workshop in Val D’Anniviers
DESCRIPTION:Pilot 8 partners met on 27 and 28 August in Val d’Anniviers. This meeting brought together key stakeholders to present the Swiss pilot project and define the role of local partners in its pilot phase. \nOn 27 August\, participants included the Energy Director of the St-Luc/Chandolin ski lifts (also an owner of hotels and restaurants in the area) and the Director of the Boutique Hôtel Chandolin. The discussions focused on outlining the benefits and expectations of their involvement\, while clarifying how their contributions will shape the project’s local pilot. \nThe following day\, 28 August\, the team met directly with stakeholders on-site to identify challenges\, co-design potential solutions\, and prepare for the upcoming CLEMAP deployment. \nThis session also addressed the crucial topic of social acceptance\, gathering insights into partners’ needs and setting the groundwork for future meetings to build a robust case study. \nHolding the sessions in Val d’Anniviers was particularly significant: the region itself will act as a “living lab”\, positioning it as a hub for innovation\, sustainability\, and technological progress. \nFor local partners\, participation brought tangible benefits: \n\nVisibility as contributors to a pioneering sustainable energy initiative\nAccess to insights and results from the project\nRecognition as forward-thinking leaders in the energy transition
