SUMMARY:CEI-Sphere Webinar: Understanding the CEI Ecosystem via the Hourglass Model
DESCRIPTION:On January 12th\, the #CEISphere webinar “Understanding the CEI Ecosystem via the Hourglass Model” brought together the community to explore how complex Cloud–Edge–IoT ecosystems can be better understood and structured. \nDuring the session\, Antonio Kung (Trialog\, O-CEI Standardisation Leader) introduced the Hourglass Model\, developed within #CEISphere\, as a practical framework to clarify how stakeholders\, capabilities\, and interoperability points align across digital ecosystems\, from devices and infrastructure to standards\, platforms\, and applications. \nThe discussion then moved from concept to practice with insights from key partners: Ignacio Lacalle Úbeda (UPV\, O-CEI Coordinator)\, Javier Valiño (Eclipse Foundation\, O-CEI Open Source Leader)\, and Damir Filipovic (BluSpecs\, O-CEI Clustering Leader)\, who demonstrated how the Hourglass can be applied across domains such as energy\, mobility\, and data-driven services. \nDr. Lacalle Úbeda highlighted O-CEI as an early adopter of the Hourglass Model from three perspectives: \n\nMapping O-CEI’s main results (including blueprints\, marketplace\, and platform) to the model to connect with actors across the energy value chain.\nPositioning partner services within large-scale O-CEI pilots.\nUsing the clepsydra-shaped tool to visualise concise\, one-page blueprints of the use cases.\n\nDid you miss the webinar? SUMMARY:AI Enables Cybersecurity Meet-Up
DESCRIPTION:“AI Enables Cybersecurity” Meetup Event 2026 \nThe Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) represented the O-CEI Horizon Project at the “AI Enables Cybersecurity” Meetup held at the COSMOTE premises in Athens. This technical forum\, centred on the theme “From Risk to Resilience\,” provided a strategic platform to showcase the security advancements of O-CEI Pilot 7. The presentation focused on the critical challenge of protecting electric vehicle distribution charging infrastructure\, highlighting how integrated security frameworks are essential for the future of European energy and mobility networks. \nTo address these challenges\, Pilot 7 utilizes artificial intelligence to secure the entire computing continuum between edge devices and the cloud. This approach ensures robust resilience and trustworthiness within a large-scale\, cross-domain pilot located in Rome\, where the intersection of power grids and digital services requires sophisticated defence mechanisms. By implementing AI-driven monitoring and design-time security\, the initiative establishes a blueprint for autonomous\, secure digital infrastructure across the European Union.

SUMMARY:European Research & Innovation Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:HES-SO participated in the conference “European Funding – Opportunities for Companies & Academics Collaborations” that took place at Campus BioTech in Geneva on 21 January 2026.\nThe conference was designed to inform academia and industry stakeholders about opportunities to participate in Horizon Europe projects under Clusters 4 and 5\, as well as other international funding mechanisms. \n\n\nHE-SO’s presentation focused on sharing institutional experience within the O-CEI project\, detailing the establishment of the Swiss Pilot initiative. It illustrated how HES-SO\, through its extensive network\, successfully orchestrated a comprehensive partnership encompassing technology providers\, solution integrators\, end users\, prosumers\, and system operators. \n\n\nThe event brought together approximately 70 participants\, with 60% from academia and 40% from industry.
