SUMMARY:IEECB&SC’26 and ESCO Europe 2026 Conference
DESCRIPTION:The IEECB&SC’26 and ESCO Europe 2026 Conference brings together leading researchers\, technology providers\, ESCOs\, policymakers\, and energy practitioners to explore advances in energy efficiency\, smart building systems\, and the development of resilient and intelligent smart communities. The conference focuses on practical and research-driven solutions for accelerating decarbonisation in the built environment\, including building automation\, energy management systems\, flexibility services\, and new business models supporting the energy transition. \nAs part of the conference programme\, a scientific paper titled “Towards Autonomous Buildings\, Communities and Positive Energy Districts: Multi-Layer Modeling and Edge-Enabled Islanding for the Energy Transition” will be presented by our partners from University College Cork. The paper introduces a multi-layer modelling framework integrating deterministic\, stochastic\, AI-based\, and reinforcement learning approaches to support autonomous building and community energy operation. A key innovation is the concept of edge-enabled fragmented islanding\, enabling buildings\, energy communities\, and Positive Energy Districts to dynamically isolate and self-balance during grid instability\, while supporting peer-to-peer energy coordination and improved resilience. The work also introduces the Response Derivative (RD) metric to quantify flexibility and responsiveness under uncertainty\, and proposes a distributed TinyML–Edge–Cloud architecture for scalable real-time implementation. \nThis dissemination activity strengthens the visibility of the O-CEI’s research outcomes\, supports knowledge transfer to European stakeholders\, and contributes to accelerating the adoption of intelligent\, flexible\, and resilient energy systems across commercial buildings and smart communities.

SUMMARY:One Digital Grid Platform - SCHNEIDER in O-CEI and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:On 17 March\, Schneider Electric\, O-CEI Horizon’s partner in Pilot 4\, will host a dedicated webinar exploring the role of energy equipment providers in enabling the digital transformation of modern energy systems. \nThe session will highlight how Schneider Electric contributes to the O-CEI Smart Port pilot in Malta\, where advanced energy monitoring and control capabilities are essential for managing complex grid environments. In large-scale infrastructures such as ports and island energy systems\, real-time data visibility and actuation over the energy grid are critical to ensure efficiency\, resilience\, and coordinated energy management. \nDuring the webinar\, Schneider Electric will present how its One Digital Grid Platform supports these capabilities by providing the technological foundation for grid monitoring\, optimisation\, and interoperability across energy infrastructures. The discussion will also illustrate how Schneider Electric’s participation in the O-CEI ecosystem enables innovation opportunities for stakeholders such as maritime terminals and local Distribution System Operators (DSOs)\, helping to connect operational infrastructure with advanced digital services. \nBy showcasing concrete use cases and technology concepts\, the session will demonstrate how digital grid platforms can support scalable and transferable solutions for future Cloud-Edge-IoT-enabled energy systems\, contributing to the broader objectives of the O-CEI project. \nThe webinar will include an introduction to the initiative and its context within O-CEI\, followed by an overview of Schneider Electric’s role in the project. Participants will learn about the concept and technology behind the One Digital Grid Platform\, explore real-world applications and deployment examples\, and discuss how these capabilities can be further leveraged within the O-CEI ecosystem. The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A.

SUMMARY:Bridge General Assembly 2026
DESCRIPTION:The partners in Pilot 8 participated in the BRIDGE General Assembly 2026\, which took place on 23–24 March in Brussels. This annual flagship event of the BRIDGE initiative brings together Horizon Europe projects\, European Commission representatives\, and key energy stakeholders from across Europe. \nThe two-day event provided a valuable opportunity to engage with representatives from other Horizon Europe projects working on Smart Grids\, Energy Storage\, Islands\, and Digitalisation\, sharing best practices\, lessons learned\, and collaborative approaches to accelerating Europe’s clean energy transition. \nAs part of the O-CEI Horizon Europe project\, Pilot 8 was actively represented through the contributions of Emmanuel Fragnière and Juliana Magalhães Cardoso\, who serve as co-leaders alongside Carlos Montalvo in the Engagement Indicators subgroup\, part of the BRIDGE Working Group on Consumer and Citizen Engagement. \nOver the past months\, Emmanuel and Juliana have made meaningful contributions to the BRIDGE community by sharing the work carried out within Pilot 8 on social acceptance. Their work aims to ensure that energy communities and citizens are genuinely supported throughout the energy transition\, placing inclusivity and social acceptability at the heart of innovation. \nBeing part of the BRIDGE community and participating in this type of event reinforces our commitment to co-building a more supportive and inclusive energy transition\, together with citizens\, communities\, and fellow European projects.

SUMMARY:2nd AIOTI Workshop on Semantic Interoperability for Digital Twins on March 24 and 25th
DESCRIPTION:Sessions to present and improve the “Manifesto for Reusable Ontologies” lead and facilitated by Trialog\, with the participation of EDF \nDuring this event\, Antonio Kung will lead a session on the requirements and content of the “Manifesto for Reusable Ontologies” which is currently discussed within the semantic interoperability community\, and is of high interest for both the CEI-Sphere and O-CEI projects. \nThis session will feature two introductory presentations by renowned European semantic interoperability experts and a panel discussion facilitated by Trialog. Here is the detailed agenda of this session : \n\nTowards a FAIR-by-design ontology development framework\, by María Poveda-Villalón (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid)\nOn the need for ontology hub interoperability\, by Raúl Garcia-Castro (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid)\nPanel discussion on the Manifesto for Reusable Ontologies : \n\nAmelie Gyrard & Henon Mengistu Lamboro facilitators\, Trialog\nMembers of the panel: Cornelis Bouter (TNO)\, Mahda Noura (Siemens)\, Raul Garcia (UPM)\, Martin Serrano (Insight Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics)\, Zehor Hounas (EDF)\n\n\n\nThis panel session will bring together perspectives from academia\, standardisation bodies\, and industry. A high-level orientation on why we need such a manifesto will be discussed\, and the viewpoint from the energy domain will also be provided. \nThis session will be followed by an interactive session (the next day) again facilitated by Trialog\, and with the participation of EDF\, named Towards the Manifesto for Reusable Ontologies. This breakout session will enable participants to make suggestions to help finalise the list of principles in order to reach an agreement. Relevant stakeholders from different communities will be invited to participate in the breakout session. Finally\, EDF will also lead a technical session on Semantic Modelling of Digital Twins.
