SUMMARY:Empowering Energy Infrastructure: The Role of 5G/6G and Edge Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:O-CEI at AIOTI Workshop on Energy Infrastructure and Edge Intelligence \nO-CEI will participate in the Empowering Energy Infrastructure: The Role of 5G/6G and Edge Intelligence\, organised by AIOTI\, taking place on 7 May 2026 in Brussels. The workshop will bring together key stakeholders from Large-Scale Pilots\, industry\, and policy to explore how next-generation connectivity and edge intelligence can enable smarter and more resilient energy infrastructures. \nO-CEI will be represented by Pilot 1 and Pilot 7\, contributing to Panel 2: Pilots Presentations and Open Discussion. \nBrian O’Regan\, from University College Cork\, the Pilot 1 leader\, will participate as speaker and panellist\, sharing insights on how the Cloud–Edge–IoT continuum supports the deployment of intelligent\, connected energy systems and contributes to the evolution of Europe’s digital energy ecosystem. \nMaria Makrynioti\, from CERTH\, representing Pilot 7\, will also contribute as a speaker and panellist\, focusing on the practical challenges of scaling smart energy solutions\, including interoperability and governance. The presentation will highlight real-world deployment of edge-to-cloud architectures and demonstrate how 5G/6G and distributed intelligence can connect decentralised energy assets with the grid. \nO-CEI Horizon’s participation reflects its active role within the broader European Cloud–Edge–IoT ecosystem and its collaboration with initiatives such as CEI-Sphere\, contributing to the alignment of Large-Scale Pilot results with market needs\, standards\, and the European data strategy.

SUMMARY:Transport Research Arena (TRA)
DESCRIPTION:O-CEI Pilot 2 at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026 \nPartners from O-CEI Pilot 2 participated in the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026\, held from 18–21 May 2026 in Budapest\, Hungary. \nDuring the event\, the partners contributed to the session “From Data to Action: Towards a European Mobility\, Transport and Logistics Data Space: Interoperability\, Governance\, and Compliance – Key Lessons and Next Steps from EU Projects.” \nThe discussion explored how data spaces could support compliance automation\, paperless processes\, and smart digital enforcement across mobility\, transport\, and logistics. These topics aligned with O-CEI Pilot 2’s work on interoperable data sharing and the development of connected\, data-driven transport and logistics solutions.

SUMMARY:Privacy-Enhancing Technologies for Information Security in Edge-Cloud Applications
DESCRIPTION:As Cloud–Edge–IoT (CEI) systems continue to expand across sectors\, Europe’s digital transformation increasingly depends on the ability to securely share and process data across distributed environments. While edge processing enhances confidentiality\, many real-world applications still require data to be aggregated and exchanged between multiple actors to unlock full value\, creating a fundamental tension between innovation\, data protection\, and sovereignty. \nPrivacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs) are emerging as a key enabler to address this challenge\, embedding security\, privacy\, and data sovereignty directly into system architectures. However\, translating PET concepts into operational CEI systems requires careful alignment between technology choices\, regulatory requirements\, and application-specific constraints. \nWithin this context\, O-CEI Horizon will contribute to the upcoming CEI-Sphere webinar\, showcasing how these challenges are being addressed in practice within large-scale\, multi-sector Cloud–Edge–IoT deployments. \nTogether with the COP-PILOT Horizon project\, O-CEI will share hands-on insights from real-world implementations of CEI infrastructures\, illustrating how secure and scalable data sharing can be achieved while maintaining trust\, compliance\, and operational efficiency across distributed systems. \nThe webinar will feature: \n\nA presentation of a recent PET study developed by Fraunhofer ISST\, offering a structured framework for selecting and implementing PET strategies in edge–cloud environments\nInsights from the O-CEI and COP-PILOT Large-Scale Pilots\, highlighting practical approaches to data protection in complex\, real-world CEI deployments\nA panel discussion on secure and scalable Cloud–Edge–IoT architectures and their role in enabling trusted data ecosystems\n\nBy combining research outcomes with pilot-driven experience\, the session will provide a comprehensive view of how PETs can move from theory to deployment\, supporting secure collaboration and innovation across Europe’s digital infrastructures.
