SUMMARY:NexusForum Talks: From Interoperability to Impact: Enabling Real-World Cloud-Edge Adoption in Europe
DESCRIPTION:O-CEI Horizon participated in the NexusForum Talk “From Interoperability to Impact: Enabling Real-World Cloud-Edge Adoption in Europe”\, a discussion focused on one of the key challenges facing the European Cloud–Edge–IoT ecosystem: how to move beyond successful pilots and transform innovation into scalable\, interoperable\, and operational solutions. \nRepresenting O-CEI\, Project Coordinator Prof. Carlos E. Palau (Universitat Politècnica de València) contributed to the discussion by sharing practical experience on simplifying the deployment and operation of Cloud–Edge–IoT solutions across distributed infrastructures. The discussion addressed some of the major barriers still limiting adoption\, including fragmented ecosystems\, legacy infrastructures\, portability challenges\, and the complexity of integrating interoperable AI and digital services across the continuum. \nA recurring message throughout the session was that semantic interoperability remains a critical gap for the ecosystem. Participants also emphasized that ecosystem building is not only about technology but also about creating the conditions that enable adoption\, collaboration\, and long-term sustainability. Interoperability was highlighted as something that should be embedded by design from the outset\, rather than addressed later through standardization efforts alone. \nThe conversation also explored how Europe can move from pilots to large-scale replication across multiple domains and\, ultimately\, from pilots to sustainable business models. In this context\, the importance of demonstrating clear economic benefits was identified as a key factor in encouraging the uptake of sovereign European technologies. \nO-CEI’s vision of combining a platform for designing and deploying reusable blueprints with a marketplace for publishing\, discovering\, and reusing interoperable digital assets was presented as a concrete approach to reducing fragmentation and accelerating real-world deployment. \nThe discussion reinforced a common ambition across the European Cloud–Edge–IoT community: not only to develop advanced technologies\, but to make th

SUMMARY:34rd Edition Master’s in Port Management and Intermodal Transport (MGPT)
DESCRIPTION:O-CEI Presented at the 34th Edition of the Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport \nProf. Carlos Enrique Palau Salvador\, from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)\, coordinator of the O-CEI Horizon project\, delivered a five-hour lecture as part of the 34th Edition of the Master in Port Management and Intermodal Transport\, organised by the Fundación Valenciaport. \nThe session focused on Edge Computing and its growing role in enabling distributed digital services across the Cloud-Edge-IoT continuum. Participants were introduced to the key concepts\, technological challenges\, and opportunities associated with edge-enabled architectures\, as well as their relevance for sectors such as logistics\, transport\, energy\, and smart infrastructures. \nThe lecture also presented the objectives and ongoing activities of O-CEI\, highlighting how the project is accelerating the uptake of interoperable Cloud–Edge–IoT solutions through eight large-scale pilots in strategic sectors. Particular attention was given to the project’s work on distributed intelligence\, interoperability\, reusable digital assets\, and energy flexibility. \nThe event provided an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of O-CEI among students and future professionals\, fostering connections between European research and higher education while promoting knowledge exchange on emerging Cloud-Edge-IoT technologies and their real-world applications.

SUMMARY:Panel “EU regulations and impact on 6G networks and terminals“
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Valerio Frascolla (Intel) organized and chaired the panel “EU regulations and impact on 6G networks and terminals“ in the Workshop “6th International Workshop on Real-life Modeling in 5G/6G networks and beyond (REFRESH)” organized during the “International conference on distributed computing in smart systems and the internet of things (DCOSS-IoT)”\, held 22-24.06.2026 in Reykjavik\, Iceland. \nThe Panel\, attended by around twenty people\, entailed a presentation from Dr. Frascolla touching on the impact of European regulation on system design and an open discussion with the audience during a Panel session that featured Dr. Fabian Göttsch and Dr. Michail Alexandros Kourtis as panelists\, focused on providing system engineers and 6G technical experts with an understanding of the impact of EU regulations (AI Act\, Data Act\, Cybersecurity Act\, CRA\, etc.) on system design activities. \nThe project O-CEI is among the organizing EU-funded projects\, in synergy with 6G-ARROW\, MultiX\, and 6G-SENSES. \n \n \n \n

DESCRIPTION:O-CEI Contributes to Discussions on Cloud–Edge–IoT Standardization in Paris \nO-CEI Horizon participated in the Regional Workshop on Standards for Cloud–Edge–IoT Ecosystems\, held on 23 June 2026 in Paris alongside the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 Plenary. The workshop brought together representatives from European research projects\, industry\, standardization bodies\, and the European Commission to discuss how standards and open-source collaboration can accelerate the deployment of interoperable and sovereign digital infrastructures. \nRepresenting O-CEI\, Ignacio Lacalle (Universitat Politècnica de València) presented the project’s approach to transforming Cloud–Edge–IoT blueprints into deployable digital assets through the O-CEI Platform and Marketplace. DESCRIPTION:O-CEI Pilot 2 Contributed to CEI-Sphere Webinar on Smart Charging Integration \nOn 26 June 2026\, O-CEI Horizon participated in the CEI-Sphere webinar “Integration of Charging Stations in Cloud–Edge–IoT Environments”\, dedicated to the integration of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across distributed Cloud–Edge–IoT ecosystems. \nO-CEI was represented through Pilot 2 – Software-Defined Vehicle for VaS in Urban Areas\, with contributions from Eusebiu Catana (ERTICO – ITS Europe) and Mihail Gaianu (AUMOVIO). The webinar also featured Antonio Kung and Olivier Maridat from Trialog\, O-CEI’s standardization leader\, who shared perspectives on interoperability\, standards\, and the integration of charging stations into connected mobility ecosystems. \nThe discussion addressed real-world deployment challenges\, interoperable architectures\, emerging testing tools\, and the role of Cloud–Edge–IoT technologies in enabling intelligent and sustainable charging infrastructures. SUMMARY:Code the Continuum Hackathon
DESCRIPTION:Eclipse Foundation\, CEI-Sphere\, O-CEI Horizon\, and COP-PILOT Horizon will organize Code the Continuum Hackathon. \nThe event will take place on 30 June–1 July 2026 at the University of Cagliari. It brings together students\, developers\, researchers\, innovators\, open-source communities\, pilot teams\, and solution providers to collaborate on practical challenges across the cloud–edge–IoT continuum. \nParticipants will work on hands-on challenges linked to key application domains such as energy\, mobility\, and industry. The hackathon provides a space for experimentation\, knowledge exchange\, and collaboration around open technologies\, interoperability\, and the reusability of assets across large-scale pilot environments.
