- Describe your company in one paragraph.
SAMMY is an innovative Greek technology company specialized in the digital transformation of marinas and ports towards a “smart”, eco-friendly and sustainable maritime ecosystem. SAMMY developed a proprietary integrated platform that combines IoT, AI, data analytics and digital twins, enabling real-time vessel detection, energy monitoring, berth management and operational intelligence for port authorities and yacht owners. Recognized as one of Europe’s Top-20 Blue Economy Innovators by the European Commission (2020) and as a Global Innovator from the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marinas summit, SAMMY has built strategic partnerships with important organizations and technology providers across Europe, Canada and the US. Present across the Mediterranean, SAMMY is targeting strategic expansion in France, Spain and North America, committed to advance the sustainable digital future of maritime infrastructure, positioned at the forefront of the blue economy’s digital and sustainable evolution.
- What challenge are you addressing under the O-CEI Horizon’s first Open Call, and how is your proposal relevant to the challenge?
V-DETECT addresses Challenge P4C4 – Global (AI/ML models/services/flows & New Smart data and semantics components) within Pilot 4 at Malta Freeport.
The core challenge it addresses is the lack of predictive tools to manage the highly variable energy demand generated by berthing vessels in Port infrastructures. As regulations increasingly mandate shore-power supply, terminals must absorb sudden electricity spikes leading to grid instability, costly peak-load penalties and heavy reliance on polluting diesel generators.
V-DETECT responds to this challenge by developing an AI-powered Cloud-IoT utility that ingests real-time vessel data from the Automatic Identification System (AIS), classifies inbound vessels by type, tonnage and energy profile, and generates predictive energy demand curves. These curves give terminal operators actionable intelligence for dynamic load balancing before a vessel berths.
The alignment with P4C4 is direct: V-DETECT builds and deploys novel AI/ML semantic enrichment models, publishes Vessel Semantic Load Profiles as reusable data assets on the O-CEI Marketplace, and demonstrates Cloud-Edge orchestration in a very demanding pilot environment. A parallel vessel detection module is also being developed, enhancing the identification and classification procedure with additional IoT capabilities.
- What is the expected impact of your proposal?
V-DETECT delivers impact across multiple dimensions:
Operationally, the utility targets a significant reduction in unnecessary peak energy consumption at Malta Freeport, achieved through AI-driven predictive load balancing based on real-time vessel intelligence. A reduction in vessel waiting times is an additional target, enabled by advance demand forecasting that allows terminal coordinators to act before vessels berth. These represent immediate and measurable efficiency gains for a sector under strict operational regulations.
Environmentally, V-DETECT directly advances EU Green Deal and Fit-for-55 objectives. By enabling optimized shore-power distribution and reducing vessel idling times, the utility contributes to lower CO₂ and NOx emissions across port areas.
At the O-CEI ecosystem level, V-DETECT contributes a genuinely reusable asset to the platform: the Vessel Semantic Load Profile, published on the O-CEI Marketplace and available to any pilot dealing with energy loads. This positions V-DETECT as a cross-domain enabler bridging Pilot 4 with the programme’s data-sharing objectives.
In the broader maritime market, V-DETECT addresses a structural gap affecting tens of thousands of ports and marinas across Europe and globally. Validated in one of the most operationally challenging logistics environments in the Mediterranean, the solution is immediately transferable to leisure marinas — SAMMY’s core scaling target— and replicable to any port seeking energy-intelligent operations. Finally, the proposed Hardware-as-a-Service and SaaS commercialization models support fast market adoption enforced by SAMMY’s commercial client and associates’ network.
Ultimately, V-DETECT advances the decarbonization of the blue economy while building a commercially sustainable, open-architecture technology platform for the ports of tomorrow.
