NovoVox addresses the challenge of low user engagement and limited social acceptability of energy flexibility systems, particularly within Pilot 8 (Smart Energy City). While Europe has achieved large-scale deployment of smart meters and energy monitoring infrastructure, these systems remain underutilized due to their reliance on digital interfaces such as mobile apps and dashboards, which exclude a significant portion of the population.
The core challenge lies in transforming passive energy data into active behavioral engagement, enabling users to understand, respond to, and participate in energy flexibility programs. NovoVox directly responds to this by introducing a voice-based, AI-driven interaction layer that allows users to access, interpret, and act on their energy data through simple phone calls.
The solution aligns strongly with O-CEI objectives by:
- Providing a human-machine interface (HMI) that enhances user participation
- Leveraging Cloud-Edge-AI architecture to process smart meter data and deliver real-time guidance
- Supporting interoperability and openness, integrating with O-CEI marketplace assets and pilot infrastructures
- Addressing Challenge P8C1 (Social Smart Meter) and P8C3 (Gamification & engagement) through conversational AI and behavioral intelligence
NovoVox transforms smart meters into “social interfaces,” enabling inclusive access across elderly users, non-digital populations, and multilingual communities. By doing so, it directly contributes to increasing participation in demand-response and flexibility programs, which are currently limited across Europe.
